The S&P BSE Sensex index fell as much as 98 points to touch 58,180.56 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty50 benchmark climbed to as low as 17,324.75, down 37 points from its previous close.
was the top Nifty50 gainer in early deals, up 1.55 per cent. Bharti Airtel, ONGC, and HUL were among other blue-chip top performers. Shares of Vodafone Idea added 5 per cent.

Equities in other Asian markets were mixed in early trade. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was down by 0.11 per cent.
Overnight on Wall Street, the three benchmark indices losed mostly lower. Dow Jones declined 0.76% to 35,100, while S&P 500 shed 0.34% to 4,520.03. Nasdaq added 0.07% to 15,374.33
Meanwhile, in the oil market, crude prices gained with Brent futures up 27 cents, or 0.4%, to $68.62 a barrel at 0204 GMT, after sliding 1.4% on Tuesday following the Labor Day holiday. Brent crude futures inched up 14 cents, or 0.2%, to $71.83 a barrel, after falling 0.7% on Tuesday.
