Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 44.35 points down at 17585.15 amid selling in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Ganesh Benzo, Suvidhaa Infoserve Ltd., Shanti Overseas (Ind, Krsnaa Diagnostics Ltd. and Intnl Conveyors, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 18 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 32 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Kotak Bank, HDFC Bank, Eicher Motors, Bharti Airtel and Maruti Suzuki were among top gainers during the day, while Tata Steel, Coal India Ltd, Hindalco, SBI and TCS ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 125.27 points down at 59015.89.
Traders piled up positions in Airlines, IT Enabled Services, Retail, Diversified and Glass sectors, while selling was witnessed in IT – Hardware, Petrochemicals, Power, Rubber and Real Estate sectors during the day.
