Shares of TIINDIA (up 3.46 per cent), Bosch (up 0.52 per cent) and Amara Raja Batteries (up 0.1 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Tata Motors (down 3.13 per cent), Eicher Motors (down 2.95 per cent), Bharat Forge (down 2.82 per cent), Exide Industries (down 2.36 per cent) and Mahindra & Mahindra (down 2.13 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 1.44 per cent down at 10202.65.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 188.25 points at 17396.9, while the BSE Sensex stood down 524.96 points at 58490.93.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 9 ended in the green, while 41 closed in the red.
