Shares of Aurobindo Pharma (up 1.97 per cent), Cipla (up 1.92 per cent), Biocon (up 1.9 per cent), Alkem Laboratories (up 1.88 per cent) and Dr Reddys Laboratories (up 1.65 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Torrent Pharmaceuticals (down 0.47 per cent) and Lupin (down 0.39 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 1.29 per cent up at 14278.95.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 165.1 points at 17562.0, while the BSE Sensex stood up 364.98 points at 58855.91.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 40 ended in the green, while 10 closed in the red.
