Shares of Cadila Healthcare (up 1.88 per cent), Torrent Pharmaceuticals (up 1.38 per cent), Lupin (up 1.06 per cent), Alkem Laboratories (up 0.93 per cent) and Cipla (up 0.77 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Divis Laboratories (down 0.76 per cent) and Dr Reddys Laboratories (down 0.15 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.39 per cent up at 14334.25.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 15.35 points at 17546.65, while the BSE Sensex stood down 77.94 points at 58927.33.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 28 ended in the green, while 22 closed in the red.
