Stock market update: FMCG stocks down as market falls

NEW DELHI: FMCG shares closed lower in the Wednesday’s session.

EIFFL(up 4.39%), JHS Svendgaard Laboratories(up 2.29%), Emami(up 1.10%), DFM Foods(up 0.79%), Marico(up 0.45%), Dangee Dums(up 0.18%), TATA CONSUMER PRODUCTS(up 0.09%), Bajaj Consumer(up 0.04%) and Gillette India(up 0.01%) stood among the top gainers.

Godrej Consumer Products(down 2.94%), Nakoda Group(down 2.66%), ADF Foods(down 1.75%), Heritage Foods(down 1.62%), Hatsun Agro Product Ltd(down 1.62%), Hindustan Unilever(down 1.42%), Hind.Foods(down 1.32%), Future Consumer(down 1.25%), Vadilal Industries(down 0.98%) and Prataap Snacks(down 0.78%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 37.3 points down at 17711.3, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 254.33 points at 59413.27.

NTPC(up 6.59%), Coal India(up 6.39%), Power Grid Corporation of India(up 6.03%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries(up 4.67%), Indian Oil Corporation(up 3.66%), State Bank of India(up 3.39%), Hindalco Industries(up 3.35%), JSW Steel(up 2.87%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(up 1.79%) and Cipla(up 1.71%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, HDFC(down 2.09%), Kotak Mahindra Bank(down 1.83%), Asian Paints(down 1.68%), UltraTech Cement(down 1.63%), Hindustan Unilever(down 1.42%), Eicher Motors(down 1.38%), Tech Mahindra(down 1.32%), HDFC Bank(down 1.31%), Hero MotoCorp(down 1.18%) and ICICI Bank(down 1.07%) closed in the red.
