Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 159.2 points up at 17691.25 amid buying in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Supreme Engineering, Jiya Eco Products Lt, Inventure Grwth, Krsnaa Diagnostics Ltd. and Metalyst Forgings, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 37 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 13 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Divis Labs, Hindalco, NTPC, Bajaj Finserv and Tata Motors were among top gainers during the day, while Cipla, Grasim Inds., UPL, Eicher Motors and Indian Oil Corp. ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 533.74 points up at 59299.32.
Traders piled up positions in Sugar, Diversified, Plastics, Metals – Ferrous and Chemicals sectors, while selling was witnessed in Learning & Education, Textiles, Petrochemicals, Telecommunications and Agriculture/Horticulture/Livestock sectors during the day.
