Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 144.35 points up at 17790.35 amid buying in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Vikas Proppant & Gr and Quadpro ITeS Ltd., touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 33 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 17 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Tata Motors, Titan Company, M&M, Maruti Suzuki and Eicher Motors were among top gainers during the day, while ONGC, Dr. Reddys, Coal India Ltd, Britannia and HDFC ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 488.1 points up at 59677.83.
Traders piled up positions in Gems and Jewellery, Leather, Apparels, Auto and Real Estate sectors, while selling was witnessed in Textiles, Learning & Education, Petrochemicals, Telecommunications and Power sectors during the day.
