Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 58.3 points down at 18418.75 amid selling in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as HEC Infra Projects, Nandani Creation, Airo Lam, Servotech Power Syst and Dynamic Services & Security Ltd., touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 16 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 34 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Tech Mahindra, L&T, Bajaj Finserv, Infosys and Kotak Bank were among top gainers during the day, while ITC, Tata Motors, Eicher Motors, HUL and Titan Company ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 49.54 points down at 61716.05.
Traders piled up positions in Construction, IT Software, Diversified, Apparels and Industrial Equipment sectors, while selling was witnessed in Learning & Education, Agriculture/Horticulture/Livestock, Power, Tobacco and Services sectors during the day.
