The Nifty Pharma index closed 2.23 per cent down at 13780.6.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 353.7 points at 17857.25, while the BSE Sensex stood down 1158.63 points at 59984.7.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 7 ended in the green, while 43 closed in the red.
