Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 59.75 points down at 17829.2 amid selling in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Airo Lam, Hathway Cable, RPP Infra Proj(PP), Kotyark Industries Ltd. and Quadpro ITeS Ltd., touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 22 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 28 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, L&T, Grasim Inds., UPL, UltraTech Cem. and Asian Paints were among top gainers during the day, while Sun Pharma, IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, Kotak Bank and ICICI Bank ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 257.14 points down at 59771.92.
Traders piled up positions in Retail, Construction, Leather, Electric/Electronics and IT Enabled Services sectors, while selling was witnessed in Miscellaneous, Tourism & Hospitality, Learning & Education, Services and Industrial Consumables sectors during the day.
