The Nifty Auto index closed 2.61 per cent down at 11747.45.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 133.85 points at 17764.8, while the BSE Sensex stood down 372.32 points at 59636.01.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 8 ended in the green, while 42 closed in the red.
