Shares of Hindustan Copper (up 11.69 per cent) , Hindalco Industries (up 6.33 per cent) , Tata Steel (up 5.95 per cent) , Jindal Steel & Power (up 5.69 per cent) and National Aluminium Company (up 5.13 per cent) were among the top gainers.
While Ratnamani Metals & Tubes (down 0.88 per cent) and Welspun Corp (down 0.04 per cent) were the top losers in the index.
The Nifty Metal index was trading 4.06 per cent up at 3755.75 around 02:35PM.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 59.30 points at 14735.0, while the BSE Sensex was up 104.0 points at 49848.32.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 35 were trading in the green, while 15 were in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, PNB, Tata Motors, ONGC and SAIL were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
