Sensex rises as auto, metal stocks lift Dalal Street; earnings in focus

Domestic equity benchmarks began Thursday’s session on a positive note amid strong buying interest in automobile and metal stocks.

The S&P BSE Sensex index opened 200.23 points higher at 48,877.78 while the broader NSE Nifty 50 benchmark started the day near the 14,650 mark.

Bajaj Auto was the top gainer in the Sensex universe, up 2.04 per cent. ITC, Bajaj Finance, ONGC, Titan and Nestle were among other gainers.

On the other hand, HCL Tech was the top loser, down 0.63 per cent. IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank and Sun Pharma were among other laggards.

Analysts awaited more large cap companies to report their January-March earnings later in the day.
