Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 120.3 points down at 15632.1 amid selling in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Walpar Nutritions Ltd., GFL Ltd., AKG Exim Ltd., Shubhlaxmi Jewel Art and SKS Textiles, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 10 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 40 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Asian Paints, UltraTech Cem., HUL, Grasim Inds. and Maruti Suzuki were among top gainers during the day, while Hindalco, IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel, NTPC and Bharti Airtel ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 354.89 points down at 52198.51.
Traders piled up positions in Building Materials, Diversified, Cement, Retail and FMCG sectors, while selling was witnessed in Plastics, Airlines, Chemicals, IT Enabled Services and Textiles sectors during the day.
