Shares of Torrent Pharmaceuticals (up 1.76 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (up 1.6 per cent), Divis Laboratories (up 1.16 per cent), Dr Reddys Laboratories (up 0.76 per cent) and Aurobindo Pharma (up 0.68 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Alkem Laboratories (down 0.81 per cent), Cipla (down 0.55 per cent), Cadila Healthcare (down 0.37 per cent) and Biocon (down 0.31 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.66 per cent up at 14575.4.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 191.95 points at 15824.05, while the BSE Sensex stood up 638.7 points at 52837.21.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 41 ended in the green, while 9 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, IDFC, SAIL, PNB and YES Bank were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Arvind Fashions, Laxmi Cotspin, Hisar Metal Ind, Jindal Stainles and Aspinwall and Co hit their fresh 52-week highs in today’s trade, while Madhav Copper, Walpar Nutritions Ltd., Perfect Infraenginee and AKG Exim Ltd. hit their fresh 52-week lows.
