Shares of Ashok Leyland (up 6.07 per cent), Amara Raja Batteries (up 3.6 per cent), TVS Motor Company (up 3.11 per cent), Balkrishna Industries (up 2.88 per cent) and Exide Industries (up 2.55 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Bharat Forge (down 1.73 per cent), TIINDIA (down 1.5 per cent) and Maruti Suzuki (down 0.23 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 0.92 per cent up at 10048.5.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 15.4 points at 15763.05, while the BSE Sensex stood down 66.23 points at 52586.84.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 25 ended in the green, while 25 closed in the red.
