The S&P BSE Sensex index rose as much as 213 points to touch 57,765.92 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty50 benchmark climbed to as high as 17,185.60, up 53 points from its previous close.
Analysts awaited more earnings announcements by India Inc for cues.
Meanwhile, a steady decline in daily additions in Covid-19 infections supported investors’ sentiment.
Axis Bank was the top Nifty50 gainer in early deals, up 3.28 per cent. Bajaj Auto, Asian Paints, L&T and
were among other blue-chip top performers.
On the other hand, HDFC was the top laggard, down 1.20 per cent.
, Kotak Bank, and Hindalco were among other losers.
Equities in other Asian markets were mostly lower in early trade. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was down by 0.39 per cent.
Overnight on Wall Street, the three benchmark indices ended lower after choppy trade. Dow Jones shed 0.11% to 35,360.73, while S&P 500 declined 0.13% to 4,522.68. Nasdaq retreated 0.04% to 15,259.24
Meanwhile, in the oil market, crude prices were steady with Brent futures up 5 cents at $71.70 a barrel, after losing 42 cents on Tuesday. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures inched up 7 cents, or 0.1%, to $68.57 a barrel at 0125 GMT, after falling 1% on Tuesday
