Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 55.95 points down at 17076.25 amid selling in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Future Supply Chain, Rex Pipes and Cables Industries Ltd., Inventure Grwth and Network People Services Technologies Ltd., touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 25 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 25 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Asian Paints, Tata Motors, SBI Life, Nestle India and Axis Bank were among top gainers during the day, while M&M, Tata Steel, Cipla, Hindalco and Bajaj Finserv ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 214.18 points down at 57338.21.
Traders piled up positions in Real Estate, Diversified, Beverages – Alcoholic, Infrastructure and Consumer Durables sectors, while selling was witnessed in IT – Hardware, Petrochemicals, Power, Industrial Consumables and Agriculture/Horticulture/Livestock sectors during the day.
