The S&P BSE Sensex index rose as much as 325 points to touch 58,472.36 in the first few minutes of trade, and the broader NSE Nifty50 benchmark climbed to as high as 17,420.70, up 97 points from its previous close.
RIL was the top Nifty50 gainer in early deals, up 2.32 per cent. Hindalco,
Motors, HUL and M&M were among other blue-chip top performers.
On the other hand, was the top laggard, down 0.81 per cent. Tata Steel, Titan, Power Grid and were among other losers.
Equities in other Asian markets were mixed in early trade. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up by 0.11 per cent.
On Wall Street, the three benchmark indices closed mostly lower. Dow Jones shed 0.21% to 35,369.09, while S&P 500 retreated 0.03% to 4,535.43. Nasdaq added 0.21% to 15,363.52
Meanwhile, in the oil market, crude prices extended losses with Brent futures down 57 cents, or 0.8%, to $72.04 a barrel by 0101 GMT while US West Texas Intermediate crude for October was at $68.73 a barrel, down 56 cents, or 0.8%.
