Shares of Varun Beverages (down 5.06 per cent), Godrej Consumer Products (down 3.13 per cent), Colgate Palmolive (India) (down 1.47 per cent), Nestle India (down 1.43 per cent) and P & G Hygiene (down 1.27 per cent) were the top losers in the index.
While Emami (up 1.01 per cent) and Jubilant Foodworks (up 0.28 per cent) were among the top gainers.
The Nifty FMCG index was trading 0.94 per cent down at 33639.6 around 02:02PM.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 68.25 points at 15246.45, while the BSE Sensex was down 276.79 points at 51877.34.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 20 were trading in the green, while 30 were in the red.
